Cost - Go solar power and save more than money

Fixing your costs.

Prices start from £5000 but as each installation is different they will vary subject to survey. Please contact us for a detailed quote.

Solar Panels provide the fantastic benefit of being able to fix your energy costs for the foreseeable future. Like a fixed rate mortgage, knowing, budgeting and fixing your costs, enables you to plan for the future. Fuel costs are no different, with prices rocketing.

Installing solar panels can take all these worries away. Once you have noticed a return on your investment within approximately 5-9 years, you then have almost complete control of your energy bills.

Selling your home?

Energy performance in the home is crucial in more ways than one, especially if you’re looking at selling up and moving on at some stage down the line.

Knowing that a property generates its own energy requirements it may be fundamental in making a sale. It will also help to increase the value of your home.

Surveys show that buyers are attracted to properties with solar systems installed and can add up to 8% to the value of the property.

Increase the value of your property.

Investing in a home PV solar energy system could increase the value and saleability of your home. Home Information Packs – which are now compulsory when selling a residential property – include information about energy performance, and buyers now increasingly ‘expect’ energy efficiency measures to be in place.

How much will it cost to have a Solar Micro-Generation System installed?

Typically domestic PV Systems come in a range of sizes from 1 – 4KW.

Once the system is installed, it automatically increases the value of your property, as it’s an asset which produces an income to the owner, however the panels are movable and therefore you can take the system with you if you move home.

Prices start from £5000 but as each installation is different they will vary subject to survey. Please contact us for a detailed quote.

Guaranteed for 25 years with a life expectancy of 40 - 50 years depending on manufacturer of panels.

Regional variances apply – please contact us for an individual quote.

Slash your electricity bill.

A typical home PV system will produce around 40% of the electricity a household uses in a year*. Factor in the rising price of power, and the cost-saving potential is clear.

Sell electricity back to the Grid.

Even when you’re not there to use it – when you’re at work or on holiday, for example – your solar PV system will still be generating electricity. This surplus will automatically be fed back into the national grid and you will receive credits from your energy supplier in payment.

Get paid for producing ‘clean’ electricity with Feed-In-Tariffs.

Under the Government’s new Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) scheme, owners of renewable energy systems** are eligible to be paid for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of ‘clean’ electricity they produce. This applies even to electricity that is sold back to the National Grid. This is a Government-backed incentive scheme designed to reward people for helping meet the UK’s renewable energy targets. It guarantees a payment for every kWh of ‘clean’ electricity you generate for at least 25years.

Potential Income

All grid connected PV systems can receive payment for the electricity they generate. Currently payments are made by your grid supplier under the ROCs scheme. For example, depending on your supplier: for every kWh you generate you are paid around 10p. In addition for every kWh you sell back to the grid you are paid and additional 5p.

In April 2010 the Feed-In-Tariffs will be introduced by the government to bring us in line with the EU and which will significantly increase your payments. Rates have now been confirmed as follows:

System Size Pence per kWh generates*
Less than 4kW (new build) 36.1p
Less than 4kW (retrofit) 41.3p
4 to 10kW 36.1p
10 to 100kW 31.4p
100kW-5MW 29.3p
Stand alone/off-grid 29.3p

* Rate is guaranteed for 25years, will be inflated annually and is Income tax-free.
The 1.0kW system in the section above could then earn over £320 every year. This does not include what you are saving by not buying so much electricity........

Generate cheap, green electricity from sunlight

Solar electricity systems capture the sun’s energy using photovoltaic (PV) cells. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to electrical appliances and lighting etc in your home. PV cells don’t need bright sun to work, you can still generate electricity on a cloudy day.

Making the most of solar electricity

To make electricity you produce go further:

invest in energy efficient appliances. Find energy saving products

use the most energy when the system is at it’s most efficient i.e. when sun is out - e.g. do your washing during the day to take advantage of the free electricity

Cost, savings and maintenance

Costs for installing a solar electricity system vary a lot - an average system costs between £6,500 and £??,000, depending on its size and type.

In general:

the more electricity the system can generate, the more it costs but the more it could save

2 kWp system could provide around 40% of a household’s annual electricity requirements.

Maintenance costs are very low, there are no annual servicing and maintenance costs. You just need to keep the panels relatively clean and make sure when surrounding trees grow that they don’t begin to overshadow them.
